Half a century ago, even the most accomplished fly fishers could only achieve modest results. All the skill in the world couldn't compensate for a silk fly line that had to be dried and treated every night just to get, at best, a few hours of poor floatation the following day.
On one of those days, Leon Martuch Sr. and Clare Harris had had enough. They also had the scientific talents to do something about it, and that's when they became Scientific Anglers. At first they conducted fly fishing experiments in Leon's kitchen. In fact, it was there they developed the early prototypes of Air Cell, known today as the first floating fly line.
Through the years, Scientific Anglers has continued to experiment with new materials and processes for fly fishing tackle. We don't guess about what will work. We don't pretend that gimmicks have anything to do with catching fish, and we don't count on luck. We're a company founded by scientists and we're driven to explore scientific solutions to the many challenges you face fly fishing.
Much about fly fishing has changed since 1945, but one thing never will. We'll never stop looking for new ways to earn your trust.
