Week of 10/26 to 11/2

We’re finally getting the fall weather we were wishing for at the beginning of October. The leaves are mostly down and the nights and mornings are cold. Water temperatures are now in the mid 50’s and dropping on area lakes. That steady drop will continue with the predicted weather and maybe some rain toward the end of the week. Turnover is taking place on some lakes and some of the smaller ones have already finished. Weeds are just about done on most bodies of water, and we’re seeing some true fall patterns – most days.

Walleye fishing on the Eagle River Chain has been good, but last week the fish were still kind of everywhere. Sometimes in the deep holes, as you’d expect, …

Week of 10/19 to 10/26

We’re finally settling into the kind of October conditions local anglers have been waiting for. The chill has arrived in earnest with the week ahead showing highs in the mid 50’s at best, and we all know what’s coming! Water temperatures haven’t quite caught up yet and are still in the upper 50s (and even still some low 60’s) on most lakes. We can expect those to decline now to more “normal” temps for this time of the year. Weeds are fading quickly, and with the dropping light angle, fish are finally shifting toward deeper structure and predictable late-fall patterns.

Week of 10/12 to 10/17

We’re finally getting the kind of October weather anglers -especially the musky type –  have been waiting for. After that stretch of warmth, the cold has settled in. While water temperatures are slow to respond, the coming week should drop them significantly. Currently, we’re still seeing upper 50’s and low 60’s throughout the area. Weeds are fading fast, and with the light angle dropping, many species are making their seasonal move toward deeper structure and more predictable fall patterns.

Walleye action has noticeably improved on the Eagle River Chain. The bite has firmed up in deeper water, with 18–25 feet still a solid starting point. Look for fish around holes, sharper breaks, and the deeper side of remaining weed edges. …

Week of 10/5 to 10/12

October is here, and while the woods are full of color, the lakes are still trying to show their own seasonal changes. Water temperatures are stuck in the mid-60’s at this writing, because of the warm weather we’ve had – but will drop by the weekend with the cooler weather this week. Weeds are thinning and the fish are following the light slowly into their fall patterns, paying less attention to temperature and more to light and weeds.  The weather has made action feel spotty during the day, but the right window can deliver some excellent catches, with early mornings and late evenings being most productive. The cool weather will pick things up, most certainly.

Walleye activity remains steady on the Eagle River Chain. …
